How much does house cleaning cost in Townsville? (2026)
Realistic 2026 prices for regular, deep and one-off house cleaning in Townsville, what pushes the price up or down, and how to get a quote you can rely on.
“How much will it cost?” is the first question almost everyone asks, and the honest answer is “it depends” — which is useless when you’re trying to budget. So here are real ranges for house cleaning in Townsville, what moves the number, and how to make sure the price you’re quoted is the price you pay.
These are planning figures, not quotes. Your actual price depends on your home, and a good cleaner will want to understand it before committing to a number.
House cleaning prices in Townsville at a glance
Most Townsville house cleaners charge somewhere between $50 and $65 per cleaner per hour for regular residential work, or quote a fixed price per visit once they know the home.
| Type of clean | Typical home | Typical price range |
|---|---|---|
| Regular clean (fortnightly) | 2 bed unit | $110 – $170 per visit |
| Regular clean (fortnightly) | 3 bed, 2 bath house | $150 – $250 per visit |
| Regular clean (fortnightly) | 4 bed, 2 bath house | $200 – $320 per visit |
| One-off deep clean | 3 bed, 2 bath house | $350 – $650 |
| End of lease / bond clean | 3 bed, 2 bath house | $450 – $700 |
| Move-in clean | 3 bed, 2 bath house | $300 – $550 |
Weekly cleans usually cost a little less per visit than fortnightly ones, because the home never gets far from clean. Monthly cleans often cost more per visit than people expect, for the opposite reason.
What actually changes the price
Bathrooms, not bedrooms
People describe their home by bedrooms, but bathrooms drive cleaning time. Showers, screens, toilets, vanities and tiled floors are the slowest rooms per square metre in any house. A three-bedroom home with three bathrooms can take noticeably longer than a four-bedroom home with two.
How long since the last proper clean
The first visit to a home that hasn’t had a deep clean in a year will take much longer than the tenth visit. That’s why many cleaners quote a higher first clean, then a lower ongoing price. It isn’t an upsell — it’s the backlog.
Floors and surfaces
Tiled living areas (very common in Townsville) need sweeping and mopping, which takes longer than vacuuming carpet. Timber, polished concrete and natural stone may need specific products. High-gloss kitchens show every smear.
Pets and people
A household with two dogs and three kids generates a different job from a couple who work long hours. Pet hair in particular adds real time, especially on upholstery and in tracks.
Extras
Most regular cleans don’t include the jobs that need doing occasionally rather than every visit:
- Inside the oven — typically $50 – $120 extra
- Inside the fridge — $30 – $60
- Interior windows and tracks — $60 – $150 depending on the home
- Walls spot-cleaned — priced by time
- Balconies and patios — $30 – $80
Rotating one extra into each visit is a cheap way to keep the whole house on top without paying for a full deep clean.
Hourly rate or fixed price?
Hourly works well when the job is genuinely unpredictable. The risk for you is that you’re paying for pace you can’t see.
Fixed price per visit is better for regular cleaning. You know exactly what you’ll pay, the cleaner carries the risk of the job taking longer, and there’s no incentive to go slowly. It does mean the cleaner needs to understand your home properly before quoting — which is why we usually either talk it through in detail on the phone or come and have a quick look first.
Why the cheapest price is rarely the cheapest
Rates well below $45 an hour for a business (as opposed to a private individual) are hard to make work once award wages, evening and weekend loadings, superannuation, insurance, products and travel are paid. When a price is very low, one of these is usually missing:
- Insurance. If an uninsured cleaner is injured in your home or damages something, you may be exposed. Ask for a certificate of currency for public liability.
- Accountability. Someone will have access to your home, often when you’re not there. Know who is coming and who to call if something goes wrong.
- Reliability. The cheapest operators are often the most likely to cancel, send someone different each time, or stop turning up.
This doesn’t mean the most expensive quote is the best one. It means the questions matter as much as the number.
How to get an accurate quote
- Describe the home honestly. Bedrooms, bathrooms, floor types, pets, and when it was last cleaned properly. Under-describing it only produces a quote that changes later.
- Say what matters most to you. Some people care most about bathrooms, others about floors or the kitchen. A good cleaner will prioritise.
- Ask what’s included — in writing. A scope of work avoids “I thought that was part of it” conversations.
- Ask about the first clean. Is it priced differently? Why?
- Ask who will actually come. The same person each time makes a real difference.
Is it worth it?
For most working households, a fortnightly clean takes three to five hours of the most tedious jobs off the weekend. At $150 – $250 a visit, many people find that’s the best-value household spend they have — and in Townsville’s humidity, regular cleaning of bathrooms and kitchens also keeps mould from taking hold. Our wet season mould guide has more on that.
